Why create a successful online business?

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

In our culture today, wealth has almost become a forbidden word. Many people will certainly challenge your purpose for creating wealth. They often target the selfish rich as their frame of reference. Frequently they sneer at the wealthy implying that one could only become rich by taking advantage of others, "clawing their way to the top." Haven't you heard people talk about "dirty money" or saying that "money is the root of all evil"? Do you have the right to become rich? Should anyone prevent others from fulfilling their life chances? If you believe in a world with limited resources, this perspective makes sense. But this perspective is based on scarcity thinking and remember "what you think about you bring about." The belief that building wealth causes others to be dispossessed is faulty thinking.

However, if you believe in unlimited resources, you know that no matter what you possess, there will always be enough for others. Your wealth can truly motivate and enhance others. Your success can be an example for others. What about the belief that the only way to become wealthy is by mistreating others? It is true that some people amass their fortune by oppressing others. In such cases the logical question is: Are they are truly rich? They may have financial wealth, but are spiritually poor.

A truly wealthy person is rich in body, mind and soul. They are whole. They build other people up. Zig Ziglar concisely said, "You can only get what you want, if you help enough other people get what they want." So why create wealth? Why aspire to be rich? Wallace Wattles, in the "Science of Getting Rich" wrote,

"The person who owns all he wants for the living of all the life he is capable of living is rich, and no person who has not plenty of money can have all he wants. Life has advance so far and become so complex that even the most ordinary man or woman requires a great amount of wealth in order to live in a manner that even approaches completeness. Every person naturally wants to become all that they are capable of becoming."

I am amazed by this statement when I realize that Mr. Wattles wrote this book in the early 1900's. He knew that we can never be all that we were meant to be until we create the wealth to live our destiny. The need varies from person to person. What I consider sufficient wealth to fulfill my dreams will be different from yours.

When you are rich you can help more people. Consider Melinda and Bill Gates: their foundation provides computers to schools around the world. Recently in Toronto, Sun Life Financial distributed free Museum and Arts passes to people with financial needs through the Toronto Public Library. Think of all the families who will expose their children to the arts because of this company's generosity.

So as you are building your online business, consider who will benefit from your success. Who have you wanted to help, but up until now, didn't have the funds? To which charity do you want to give a donation? Have you dreamed of creating a foundation? Make a list of the individuals or charities that will benefit from your business success. Visualize yourself writing the cheque to the organization or the individual. Hold the image of the celebration when your foundation is created. Then the next time you face challenges in your business, pull out the list. Read it. Experience the emotions. WOW!!

Hold the vision of the phenomenal outcome of your business. Concentrate on the positive. Maximize the momentum as your energy shifts. Take the limits off. Your successful online business now soars to the zenith of your aspiration.

Tips For Getting the Best Website Design For Your Money

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Eventually every small-business owner realizes that they will need a website for their business, but figuring out where to start can be a challenge. Just understanding the technical lingo and all the options can be confusing, but with the right preparation you can have an impressive and easy to maintain website for your small business in no time.

Check the competition

The first place to start on your website project is to look at some competitor websites in your industry. You will want to know what your potential customers will comparing you to. You will also want to find out what the standard is for your industry in terms of the number of pages, the type of information and the general look and feel. If for example, your competitors have large sites and many interactive features then you will want your site be comparable, but if your competitors have small simple sites, then you know that you won’t need lots of bells and whistles.

Prepare your information

Before you meet with your web designer, gather some examples of competitor websites that you like. List what it is that you like and dislike about those sites. If you have any pamphlets or brochures for your business, have those ready for your designer as well. Choose some colors or have an idea of some color schemes that you like and if you have won any professional awards or have any important professional affiliations, put that information together because you will probably want to feature that on your website.

Do you need a content management system?

One important decision that you need to make about your website is whether or not you are going to need a content management system. Content management systems are typically used on larger sites, to control text, video, pictures etc. A content management system allows you to easily change and update the information on your site. This is useful for a website on which, for example staff photos and bios are added often or a newsletter archive is maintained.

If you anticipate making many changes on your website, a content management system can save you time and money. With a content management system, the owner of the site can make the changes as needed, without having to wait for a web designer or webmaster to make the changes for them. This can be a very important feature because it allows you to keep your website current at all times so you’re making the best possible presentation to your customer. It can save you money because you will not have to pay your web designer to make the updates for you.

Typically, a website that is more than 15 pages would be a good candidate for a content management system. The more information you have on your website the greater the chances are that you are going to need to keep that information updated. If your website is less than 15 pages, you probably will not need a content management system.

WordPress as a content management system for small business

WordPress is popular as a content management system for small businesses for several reasons. One it is that it is relatively easy to use. You do not need to be versed in HTML or any other programming language to handle WordPress. There are also many training videos and materials available on the Internet and also a number of plug-ins so that you can customize the software for your needs. WordPress is also useful for blogging which can help to keep your website information up to date. If you would like to show up higher in the search results, then WordPress is a good choice for that as well. Google has stated that WordPress is one of the easiest systems to crawl so it can help you come up higher in the search engine results.

When you begin planning for your small business web site, start by checking competitor websites in your industry. This will give you an idea of approximately how many pages you will need as well as what type of features you will want on your site. Your goal will be to have your website look as good as, or better than your competitor’s.

By planning ahead and knowing what your potential customers will be comparing you with, deciding how large you want your site to be, and what type of features you will need, you will be equipped to get the best possible website for your small business.

5 Tips To Run A Successful Affiliate Promotion

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

If the economy has taken a bite out of your wallet and it’s looking like the only way out is to get a second or third job, consider affiliate marketing to supplement your current income and provide the extra income you need. It’s time to work smarter, not harder.

Imagine if you didn’t have the long commute to work each day but instead could work from the comfort of your own home. Think about the amount of extra time you would have to spend with your family and friends. No more answering to a boss, work the hours you want to work and go on vacation whenever you desire. This is the type of lifestyle that an affiliate marketing business can offer. If you’ve ever considered starting a work from home business, this could be just what you’ve been looking for.

Selecting the right affiliate product to promote is a critical first step in any affiliate marketing promotion, so it pays to do your research. Clickbank is awesome website that has over 10,000 products you can choose from to promote and it’s completely free. Some products will pay a one off fee for referring someone to their product where as others will pay a monthly recurring income for anyone you get to sign up. A membership website for example will quite often will pay a monthly recurring income.

Of course once you’ve decided on the affiliate product you’re going to promote, the next question is “How on earth will you market the product?” With so many different forms of advertising available online and so much competition these days, it’s becoming far more difficult to make money by running an affiliate marketing promotion. If you’d like to spend as little as possible on advertising and don’t like the thought of risking your hard earned money, I would suggest you get back to grass roots marketing.

Grass roots marketing is the cheapest way to do marketing and the best thing is, no-one is doing it anymore. There are a number of different marketing options you can choose to start your own affiliate marketing promotion. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can enjoy the work from home lifestyle.

Here are 5 types of grass roots marketing you can use:

Business Cards. Get business cards created that promote your affiliate link. You could leave business cards in bathrooms of local pubs that people can pick up, leave business cards lying around your office for other colleagues to look at or ask the local hair salon. Just include a headline with your URL on a plain background.

Flyers. Get some flyers created and go and put them on people’s windshields. You could visit any kind of car lot where there are a lot of people. Target the buyer by first describing what they’re doing. For example, if you were targeting cars parked at a shopping centre you might say “Need some more money to buy some more stuff, then visit my website.”

Postcards. Get some postcards developed promoting your affiliate product and mail them out to a list of people. Everyone is so focused with promoting products online, they’re neglecting the traditional form of mail.

Lawn Signs. This is a very effective method where you can target an enormous of drivers who will see your lawn sign every day. Find a location where your sign will get viewed by a lot of drivers and bang it in the ground. Even if it’s up for only one week, imagine how many people would have already seen your sign.

Pens. Think of all the places where you’re always short of a pen. Leave pens lying around the office, maybe in the work stationery cupboard, at the airport or in local coffee shops.

Using this type of marketing is a fantastic way to get a massive audience to visit your website. Now, you might be wondering where you’re going to get all this stuff from. There is a website called VistaPrint where you can get all of this promoting material made very cheaply. If you were to spend the same amount of money on grass affiliate roots marketing instead of Google Adwords or another form of online advertising, grass roots marketing would definitely come out on top as the most profitable. There is just so much competition in online advertising these days.
